Jesus saves City's blushes with late winner in EPL

FOOTBALL: Manchester City has moved into third spot on the English Premier League ladder after a 2-1 success over Swansea City.

Pep Guardiola's team did it the hard way, though, with 19-year-old Brazilian sensation Gabriel Jesus scoring the winner three minutes into injury time, poking home from close range after Lukasz Fabianski had fumbled his original header.

City was in complete control and should have had more than Jesus' first goal to show for its first-half dominance.

After the break, Swansea, looking for a third straight EPL win, was the better team for long periods and deservedly equalised through Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson.

A point would have been just rewards for Paul Clement's team following the second-half turnaround but Jesus, preferred again to Sergio Aguero, broke Swansea hearts with his third goal in his first three EPL games.

The Sky Blues are now 10 points behind leader Chelsea, while Swansea remains 17th, a point ahead of Hull City in the last relegation spot.

Meanwhile, goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juan Mata brought an end to a run of three consecutive league draws for Manchester United which piled more misery on champion Leicester with a 3-0 win at King Power Stadium.

United remains sixth but is now just two points behind Arsenal in the final Champions League qualification spot (fourth).

For Leicester it was its fourth straight league loss and it is in real danger of relegation.

The defeat leaves the Foxes just one point clear of the bottom three.
