John Aloisi: "Corona" key signing for Brisbane Roar

EVEN Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi admits his new signing - widely known as "Corona" - will be a headline writer's dream.

Miguel Angel Garcia Perez-Roldan, who under the widely-used Spanish tradition plays under a single name - Corona - is a key signing for the Queensland club for the coming A-League season.

The 34-year-old has played for Spanish side Almeria since 2006, and was the club's captain He notched up 312 appearances (22 goals) in all competitions for the Andalusia-based club, including nine seasons in La Liga against some of the world's best players.

Aloisi, who actually played against the Spaniard in La Liga during his time with Osasuna and Alaves, said he had been happy to learn his recruit's nickname came from his grandfather's bald patch - a crown - rather than from a love of Corona beer.

"I thought it was because he drank a lot of beer, but if you look at him physically, you can see he hasn't drank a lot of beer," Aloisi added.

"Not a bad name though - good for the headlines."

Corona said he was looking forward to providing a mentoring role with the young Roar players, adding he had been surprised at how hard everyone was working at training.

The holding midfielder also said he had completed a pre-season in Spain and would be ready to play in the Roar's opening A-League match against Western Sydney next Thursday night.
