Million-dollar man Johnson cashes in on Ashes success

PACEMAN Mitchell Johnson has capitalised on his Ashes success by attracting more than $1 million in the Indian Premier League player auction that began yesterday.

Johnson, the man of the series against England with 37 wickets, was snapped up by the Kings XI Punjab for $1.1 million.

Kevin Pietersen, who was dropped so unceremoniously by England last week, was expected to fetch big money and did not disappoint with the Delhi Devils paying $1.6m to secure his services.

Big-hitter Dave Warner went for just under $1 million, with the Sunrisers Hyderabad forking out $978,000.

Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is the highest earner so far with the Royal Challengers Bangalore parting with $2.5m of their allocated $10m.

The auction, featuring 514 players, continued overnight and finishes today.
