FEDERAL Police are reportedly investigating claims a video of former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd using explicit language, leaked during the heat of a Labor leadership battle, was posted online by a member of Julia Gillard's staff.

In March, the video of Mr Rudd repeatedly using the "f" word was posted on YouTube.

Ms Gillard's staff has continued to deny any involvement in the leak.

According to News.com, senior Labor sources believe police are "moving closer to the mystery of the leaked video" and have confirmed Mr Rudd is cooperating with the investigation.

A spokesperson for the AFP confirmed police were investigating a referral about the leak but would not release further details.
