Juniors tackle finals head-on

BLACKWATER Crushers under-14s have secured their grand final berth after a 46-36 victory over Emerald Tigers in the major semi-final in Blackwater at the weekend

Linden led from the front for Blackwater with a great solo try using all his strength.

Guddy was also on target with his kicking game, nailing seven from seven conversions for the day.

Replacement halfback Nick was in great form in attack and defence, steering his team-mates around the park superbly. Man of the Match Peter H had a powerhouse game. He led the tackle count and also set up several brilliant tries.

IN other junior matches around the Central Highlands, Emerald Tigers under-12s defeated Springsure Mountain Men in a nail-biter, 10-4, to secure their place in the 2011 grand final.

Emerald Brothers claimed an upset in the under-16 semi-final defeating minor premiers Clermont Bears 42-26, keeping their premiership hopes alive.

Emerald Tigers under-18 made it a club double with their 52-12 point walloping of Emerald Brothers.

Tigers coach Joe Taylor said it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for the Emerald youngsters.

“We’ve had a bit of an up and down season,” he said.

“The under-18s competition has been pretty even. I was happy we only kept them to 12 points.”
