Jyi is a top Prospect, to be sure

IT’S St Patrick’s Day races at Springsure tomorrow and punters will be hoping for their share of the ‘luck of the Irish’ as they attempt to unravel the winners on the four-race card.

Unfortunately a lack of acceptors has meant the Class 6 Plate has been deleted from the program.

The feature event is The Triple H Partners and Central Highlands Toyota Bracelet Open Handicap over 1300 metres.

The Norma King-trained Jyi’s Prospect is going for his third bracelet in four years having won this event in 2007 and 2009.

Much has been written about his achievements which show he has won 22 of his 123 lifetime starts.

It is also worth reflecting on the fact that he has won on 17 different race tracks in Queensland with his only multiple wins being recorded at Clermont, Bluff and Springsure.

Although he finished fifth in a field of nine at Longreach last Saturday, he was beaten by only one length and his assignment tomorrow looks an easier task.

Provided he can be saved for a short sharp sprint in the straight, he looks to have the class to snare his third bracelet.

The Bob Humphreys-trained Sutton Chief is sure to appreciate the drop in class to what he struck at Callaghan Park last start and should be popular with punters.

There may have been excuses for him at Bluff two starts back so if you can overlook that run he has the right form to take out the Class 3 Plate over 1000 metres.

His main danger appears to be the Ross Vagg-trained After The Fact who is well drawn in gate 1 and is a winner over this track and distance.

Others with strong winning claims in their respective races are the Todd Austin-trained pair of Four Strong Winds and Little Beauty.

A Greyhound bus will be running from Emerald, picking up at various stops from noon and departing Springsure again at 10pm.

Cost is $20 return and bookings are essential. Call 0407 641 355.
