Karl wears shorts and sandals for Coast's red carpet welcome

DRESSED in very short black Adidas shorts, open sandals and a cowboy hat, Karl Stefanovic received a royal welcome to the Sunshine Coast.

Karl and Today Show co-host Lisa Wilkinson said the Sunshine Coast gave them "the best welcome of anywhere in the world".

The Shake it Up band played their musical instruments as Karl and Lisa walked the red carpet along the tarmac to the Sunshine Coast Airport arrivals lounge.

Then the two hosts were extremely gracious, taken the time to chat to the brass band participants and their parents who had arrived for the welcome.

Both hosts also chatted to the Daily about their excitement at being on the Sunshine Coast and being able to show case the beauty of the area.

"We're looking forward to going to the local restaurants and catching up with the peple who live here" Karl said.

"The best part of what we do is promoting this part of Australia to the rest of Australia," Karl said.

The Today Show has a daily audience of 350,000 people and luring it to the Sunshine Coast as part of their "We Love Australia" trip was a coup for the region.

Sunshine Coast Mayor, Mark Jamieson expected the coverage to provide substantial short and long-term benefits.

Both Karl and Lisa were looking forward to broadcasting live from Moffat Beach tomorrow morning.
