Katy Perry on Pisasale's wish list for carols

BRINGING an international act like Katy Perry to Ipswich is on the agenda of the committee of the Ipswich Mayor's Carols by Candlelight Fund.

Attention has been drawn to annual reports that show the fund had $425,950 in the bank at the end of the 2012-13 financial year.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale, who is on the management committee of the fund, said money had been set aside to bring a major artist to Ipswich.

"We have been saving to bring someone like Katy Perry or an international act here," he said.

"Ipswich deserves better.

"With regard to all the funds, every cent that goes in there is for Ipswich and its people."

There are unofficial lists of what it costs to hire major artists for private parties or one-off events.

Perry may just be out of reach at this stage for the committee, with her asking price listed in a recent report as being $500,000.

Rappers Snoop Dogg and Public Enemy are well within reach at $75,000, although they might be a bit much for the kids at a carols event.

Bob Dylan is said to be in the $250,000 to $380,000 range and would no doubt be a hit with the parents.

The Violent Femmes are a steal at $40,000.

There are many big name bands well within the fund's capacity.

Cr Pisasale said the carols were run at a profit for a reason.

"Ipswich always misses out but we don't want it funded by the ratepayers," Cr Pisasale said.

"We've been saving and saving to make sure we can get a top act here and really blow Ipswich away.

"We want to make sure we have the best possible Christmas carols.

"There are plenty of sponsors that help out with that."
