BREAKING: He once held the highest legal office in Queensland, now Kerry Shine is shaping up for a battle against Trevor Watts for the electorate of Toowoomba North.
Mr Shine announced today he would contest the next election for the Australian Labor Party.
The former member for Toowoomba North and Attorney General said: "After considering the Premier's request and in consultation with my family, friends and Labor branch members and importantly seeking the views of as many Toowoomba locals as possible - I have decided to nominate to be Labor's candidate in the seat of Toowoomba North.
"I am passionate about the issues that keep Toowoomba families up at night.
"Things like jobs, the cost of living and health and education services.

"As the local MP I delivered $1.6 billion for Toowoomba. I was aggressive in getting projects off the ground to create jobs and support local small businesses, more than ever that's what Toowoomba North needs right now.
"While I lost by a small margin at the last election, I am under no illusions how tough of a fight winning Toowoomba North will be for Labor. It will be won street by street and door by door."
Mr Shine lost to Mr Watts in the last election.
The 2015 battle was on a knife-edge but Mr Watts was backed strongly by Highfields voters who helped him over the line.
Mr Watts secured 44.41% of the vote (13,932) and Mr Shine 38.78% (12,166) in 2015.
