Vandals empty salt shakers, spray paint flowers

INSTEAD of painting the town red, some individuals have decided to paint Biggenden blue.

Vandals armed with blue spray paint took to the streets on Saturday night, leaving a trail of graffiti and pointless destruction.

Biggenden Police Senior Constable Mark Bradley said reports suggested the offenders were youths.

"They should be under the supervision of their parents or a responsible adult and not roaming the streets in groups after dark," he said.

The trail of graffiti started near the Biggenden saleyards where the words 'start' and 'finish' were sprayed on the road.

The offenders then headed to George St, turning their attention to Coffee Pozzee where they threw chairs and emptied salt and pepper shakers.

After vandalising the cafe the offenders continued on, leaving a trail of paint including at the Catholic Church where some flowers are now blue.

The shelter shed beside the school was also vandalised while a truck parked at H Dowling & Sons escaped lasting damage despite paint being sprayed on the tail lights.

"It was just an inconvenience as it meant the driver had to scrub the paint off before heading off," Geoff Dowling said.

Burnett Livestock and Realty's Stephanie Whitaker said police visited the stockyards to take fingerprints from one of the aerosol lids left behind. Anyone with information should phone Biggenden police on 4127 1211.
