Killer mum back in Australia after time in psych ward

A NSW Central Coast mum, who drowned her two sons in a bathtub while overseas, has returned to Australia.

Alysson McConnell, 34, arrived on a flight from Canada at Sydney Airport Wednesday morning following her release from an Alberta psychiatric ward.

McConnell confessed to killing her sons, Connor, 2 and Jayden, 10 months, at her home in 2010.

She was found not guilty of two counts of second-degree murder but guilty of manslaughter and given a head sentence of six years jail.

After spending just 10 months in the psychiatric ward, McConnell was released despite objections from her former husband Curtis McConnell and prosecutors.

McConnell is expected to live on the Central Coast with family.

She faces extradition back to Canada if appeals against her not guilty verdict and sentence are successful.
