DANIEL Boase and Kellie Trew are demanding answers from Queensland Health on why they had to drive their young daughter to Rockhampton to receive emergency surgery after she was attacked by a dog last Sunday.
The Tannum Sands couple is outraged that their three-year-old daughter Aleeah was unable to be treated at Gladstone Hospital, and more so, was not offered ambulance transport to Rockhampton Hospital to undergo microsurgery.
They have questioned the total lack of services available at Gladstone Hospital but are reluctant to put blame on the medical staff working there.
Instead they have cited funding shortages as the problem, particularly at a time when government and Queensland Health are injecting money into hospital facilities and services elsewhere.
Mr Boase has described the incident as totally inadequate.
"There is enough money in this town to sink a battleship," Mr Boase said.
"What's going on?
"Why can Rockhampton offer us these services and we can't in Gladstone?
"It's just disgraceful.
"I am shocked at the whole system in Gladstone."
