GIVEN what they were wearing as they trained with the Ipswich Jets on Tuesday night, the women of the new Ladies Football League could be forgiven for wishing it was a summer competition.

But they are nothing if not tough, and they hope to prove it to Ipswich tomorrow night.

As a curtain raiser to the Jets' Queensland Cup clash with Mackay at the North Ipswich Reserve, women from the Ipswich Miners, Brisbane Thunder and Gold Coast Angels gridiron teams will put on an exhibition match.

They have already had one game, with Ipswich's Nicola Schoultz pumped for a second chance to get physical.

"The girls played really hard," Schoultz said. "I think a few girls were a bit nervous."

The women were able to share tips with Jets players on Tuesday, including three former gridiron players.

Former University of Hawaii running back Jayson Rego had just one piece of advice.

"When they tackle, keep their heads up and wrap up," Rego said.

The Ladies Football League game kicks off at 6pm tomorrow.
