JOHN Morris can see the funny side of life.

The Tweed resident yesterday shared his passion for public speaking and laughter with fellow library-goers.

Mr Morris gave a talk on laughter at the Tweed Heads Library, sharing his favourite poems and stories with the audience.

“I described the amount of laughter I find in my own life and I talked about things I find when I search through library books ... things which make me laugh,” Mr Morris said.

“I was so pleased I was able to talk to the audience about this.

“There were quite a few laughs from them.”

Mr Morris said his love of public speaking came from his many TV appearances.

“I have been on a lot of television quiz shows as a contestant.

“I have worked with Bert Newton on TV shows and I have been a panellist on TV.

“This is what led to my love of public speaking.”

Mr Morris has made Tweed Heads his home since the 1980s.

Before he moved, he embraced a different form of public speaking, as a teacher in Sydney.

Mr Morris’s laughter talk at the Tweed Heads Library proved so popular, he has been asked to repeat it at another library.

“As a result of my speech today I received a call from Elanora Library and I have been asked to present my talk there,” Mr Morris said.

“As we grow older, nasty things can happen to us. You have to grin and bear it and what better way to do this than with humour.”
