League stars drop in on tour

IF you are a Brisbane Broncos fan, you may want to keep Tuesday afternoon free as a large Broncos contingent will be at the Emerald Post Office on Egerton Street from 3.30pm to 4.15pm as part of the club’s annual Central Queensland regional tour.

Among the group will be former league internationals Michael DeVere and Michael Hancock, who will be flanked by several important figures from Broncos development.

Current NRL stars, Peter Wallace and Andrew McCullough, are scheduled to be on board but only as far as Gladstone and Rockhampton.

After two appearances, the pair will return to Brisbane for preseason training.

The tour kicks off in Rockhampton this weekend before making its way through several Central Queensland towns including Gladstone, Emerald, Biloela, Moura, Banana, Moranbah, Springsure and Tieri.

During the tour, the group will host several training clinics and make a number of public appearances at Australia Post outlets along the way.

More than 2000 children from across the region are expected to attend the training clinics, where they will be given the chance to learn from some of the best in the business.

Australia Post has sponsored the Broncos tour for the past 14 years, since its inception in 1996.

“After tours to North Queensland in the last few years, we are pleased to see the tour returning to Central Queensland to give children a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet their heroes,” Australia Post sponsorship manager Sarah Brown said.

Broncos game development co-ordinator Paul Dyer said the club was and always had been committed to developing the game of rugby league throughout Queensland.
