Leemon wary of Induna

THERE is only one challenger trainer Ron Leemon is scared of heading into Saturday's Victoria Derby with hot favourite Manawanui - Induna from Warwick Farm neighbour Peter Snowden.

Manawanui was moved in to a $2.25 favourite after taking care of business in the Mitchelton Wines Vase at Moonee Valley on Saturday and has pulled up well enough for Leemon to be confident he would back up in the Derby.

"I'm 99 per cent sure now he will be there, but things can change,'' he said. ''He will be better for that run at 2000 metres, and if he drops his head and relaxes, I can't see him not running out the 2500 metres."

TAB Sportsbet's Glenn Munsie said Manawanui was ''a huge risk'' at the short odds in the Victoria Derby. He questioned whether his Vase win really gave any insight into whether the Golden Rose winner would stay.

"The Vase has been the best form for the Derby in the past but I think we didn't learn a lot from it on Saturday," Munsie said. "We certainly didn't learn if Manawanui will stay. He beat Collar, which is a $17 chance in the Derby, as you would have expected he would as an odds-on favourite.
