MOTORSPORTS: Lewis Hamilton hopes former teammate Jenson Button replaces Fernando Alonso for McLaren in this year's Monaco Grand Prix.

Alonso will race in the Indianapolis 500 instead, and Button (pictured), who is under contract with McLaren, is the obvious replacement.

"I hope Jenson comes back, I think it would be great for the sport to have Jenson back in," said Hamilton, who was at McLaren with Button from 2010-12.

"I still think he is one of the best drivers. His calibre is still higher than any other driver who could take that spot, for sure."

Hamilton, meanwhile, believes his team are "underdogs" to Ferrari for this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.

"Ferrari are going to be very, very strong here. They always have been," Hamilton told the BBC.

"It is going to be hard to keep with them, particularly in hot conditions."
