Liam at the Reddy
THERE could be no defensive unit feeling more confident this round than that of Sydney FC, after they held out Brisbane Roar's rampant attack to keep a clean sheet last week.
Central to that effort was goalkeeper Liam Reddy, who was probably the happiest of the lot, having moved home from Brisbane at the start of last season. Reddy has been in great form and, though today Sydney FC face a Gold Coast side on a lengthy losing streak, he expects his defence to be as switched on as in last Sunday's morale-boosting win.
''It's a big game because we need the three points but it's also very important to continue our form from last week,'' Reddy said yesterday. ''The game last week was a good team performance. To beat Brisbane, who everyone was raving on about, was a great achievement. To knock them off was very satisfying because we put together our best 90 minutes. The big thing is to maintain that form or it will count [for] nothing.''
Last time the teams played, Gold Coast scooted to a 2-0 lead before Sydney hit back. It's a scenario Reddy doesn't expect to happen again.
''We were lucky to come back from two goals down to Gold Coast last time and beat them. We definitely will have to be much better than we were that day. It's a cliche but there are no easy games in this competition so we'll be definitely up for it tomorrow night.''Read more at brisbanetimes.com.au
