Lions to help Dodie regain normal life by relocating bird

THE Lions Club of Ipswich has come to the rescue of Silktone pensioner Dodie Allen, who has been unable to leave her home due to daily attacks from an aggressive butcher bird.

Upon hearing Mrs Allen could not afford to have the bird relocated, president of the Lions Club of Ipswich Paul Whear decided to offer a helping hand.

"We would like to fund for the bird to be relocated so Mrs Allen will not feel like a prisoner in her own home," he said.

"No one should be confined to their own residence.

"The Lions are about helping the community and as she doesn't have the money we want to help her.

"It will be a win-win for both sides, the bird can be relocated to a better home and Dodie can regain her normal life back."

An emotional Mrs Allen said she was overwhelmed by the generosity that the Lions had displayed.

"It's like winning the lotto," she said.

"I couldn't be more thankful, it's absolutely wonderful."

After being targeted for over a month by the butcher bird, which was patrolling the area outside her unit complex, Mrs Allen said she would be happy to see the animal rehomed.

"I couldn't go anywhere before," she said.

"I've been in terror of falling over, now I won't have to worry.

"I will be able to come and go as I please and I'll be free to walk around."

She said the relocation of the bird would make an unimaginable difference to her quality of life.

"It's going to make my whole life worth living again," she said.

"I just can't put into words what that means to me, it's wonderful."

The Lions Club of Ipswich has organised with the Queensland Fauna Consultancy to have the bird relocated tomorrow.
