SHE is enjoying settling into a new relationship and busy studying for a degree in psychology, but Lisa Curry just cannot seem to stay out of the spotlight.
The former golden girl of Australian swimming is this week featured in two national women’s magazines, although only one was sanctioned by the Commonwealth Games gold medallist.
Looking fit and healthy after her heart surgery, the 48-year-old and her 28-year-old partner Joel Walkenhorst posed for a picture spread in New Idea magazine.
They talked about how happy they are in their new relationship.
They reveal they have moved in together in what is described as a “small waterfront home”, believed to be on the canals in Mooloolaba.
It is not far from the mansion Lisa shared with Grant Kenny before their 24-year marriage ended last year.
“Yes, I’m totally in love,” Lisa told this week’s New Idea. “He is a beautiful soul – my best friend, a caring, lovable man who always finds a way to make me laugh.
“It just goes to show that when you connect emotionally with the right person everything in your life seems amazing.”
The couple are also the flavour of the week over at rival Woman’s Day, although that magazine is short on quotes and long on information from “sources”.
“They’re living a cosy, laidback life,” one source says in the article that includes intimate photos of the pair, which appear to have been taken without their knowledge.“Lisa looks really happy.
“She is there in the kitchen and they’re kicking back with Coronas and whatnot.
“Joel spends a lot of time out in the garden playing on his guitar – it’s all very bohemian.”
Both magazines drool over the fact Lisa is 20 years older than Joel.
She admitted to New Idea there have been times the age difference worried her.
“I don’t care what other people think but I did wonder a few times what I was getting myself into.”
The Daily was unable to contact Lisa yesterday.
