LNP isn't handing back fraudster MP's $50,000 in donations

AS DISGRACED former LNP politician Scott Driscoll sits in prison awaiting his sentence for fraud, the LNP has confirmed it has no plans to hand back the more than $50,000 it gained from his misdeeds.

Fairfax Media reports the LNP describes taking the donations "in good faith" and that groups affected by Mr Driscoll's fraudulent actions - including the Queensland Retail Traders and Shopkeepers Association - ought to pursue Mr Driscoll.

Mr Driscoll pleaded guilty in late 2016 to 10 counts of falsifying records, three fraud charges and two counts of secret commissions.

The charges relate to incidents between 2011 and 2013, when the former Redcliffe MP was involved with the QRTSA.

Mr Driscoll was the QRTSA's president and an LNP candidate when he moved $60,000 from the association and "into his own personal bank account", the Brisbane District Court heard this week.

He then gave $5000 to the LNP as his own campaign contribution, followed by another donation of almost $50,000.

The court was told Mr Driscoll, who suffers from bipolar disorder, is at risk of committing suicide in jail.

He and wife Emma currently live in his parents' garage.

He is due to be sentenced on Friday.
