David Goodwin dumped by LNP after Turnbull criticism

A HIGH-PROFILE LNP member has been suspended by the party for 12 months for criticising Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The Courier-Mail understands David Goodwin, a former senate candidate and former president of the Young Nationals and the Young LNP, was suspended over his private account Facebook post calling for Mr Turnbull to be dumped for Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce.

The suspension follows comments by former premier Campbell Newman last week doubling down on his frequent criticism of Mr Turnbull's leadership. Mr Newman has said he received support from within the party for his comments.

Mr Goodwin, however, has been sidelined for a year.

The LNP declined to comment as it was an "internal party matter".
