Police found drugs, cash and a gun at siege house

A LOADED rifle and ammunition found at the site of seven-hour stand-off in South Grafton may explain precautions taken by specialist police, which included shutting down streets in the immediate vicinity.

Yesterday the man charged over Friday's incident, 46-year-old Jason Gipp, had his matters briefly heard in Grafton Local Court.

The stand-off with heavily-armed police began shortly before 1am on Friday, when officers from the Coffs/Clarence Command attended an industrial unit on Induna St to speak with Gipp, and ended without incident about 8.40am that day.

During a subsequent search of the premises police allegedly located a loaded rifle, ammunition, $14,600 in cash and prohibited drugs including MDMA and cannabis

As a result, court documents show five new charges, including possession of an unauthorised firearm and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime, have been added to 19 firearm and drug-related offences for which the accused was already wanted.

Mr Gipp's 19 original charges stem from a search warrant at an Induna St address on February 11, as part of an ongoing police investigations into drugs, firearms and property matters. During that search, police seized a .308 calibre rifle and a small pen gun, ammunition, suspected stolen property and a stockpile of $50 and $100 notes totalling $190,000 hidden in vacuum-sealed bags. Prohibited drugs including 56.34g of methamphetamine were also found on the premises.

In court yesterday Mr Gipp did not apply for bail or make a plea but defence solicitor Greg Coombes said there would likely be a bail application made.

The matter is expected to return to Grafton Local Court on August 2.
