Locals are going places

THE new year has brought a new business to Blackwater, with the opening of a hire car company by Simon Frost.

The company opened last week and business has already been better than expected.

"The business has been going good, cars already hired left right and centre," Mr Frost said.

The strong start came as a surprise to Mr Frost, who thought it would be a "slow and gentle" introduction into the Blackwater community.

He said the taxi business started by his family two years ago had been going well, so they decided to keep expanding.

"If we stay positive in town then hopefully they will keep supporting us."

Simon said the business returned customers' loyalty by servicing vehicles and filling up on fuel in town as well as hiring locals.

The hire company came about as Simon had the realisation that there was nothing in town and people were travelling to Rockhampton and Emerald to hire vehicles.

"I just saw the hole in the market and the need for there to be something local," he said.

He said it was not only businesses making use of the local business but also residents.

"So we're not just relying on companies, people are hiring cars too," he said.

"The feedback we've had was it's so convenient and they know we are reliable."

With five brand new vehicles that were "pristine clean", Simon said the company's reputation preceded it, as locals knew the services being provided.

"As demand grows, we will keep buying more vehicles," he said.
