CAPTAIN. Genius. Legend
A 21-year-old Darren Lockyer stepped out onto the State of Origin pantheon draped in Queensland maroon in 1998.
More than 34 games, nine tries and 13 years later, the man who has a been a dagger at NSW supporters' hearts has declared this will be his last series.
On July 6, in front of an expected packed Suncorp Stadium, Lockyer will lead Queensland out against the Blues one last time, desperate to seal a sixth-straight Queensland series victory.
Lockyer will bow out from the hallowed arena with the record of most Origin appearances and a chance to overtake Dale Shearer (14) as the highest try scorer.
The history pages will describe Lockyer as an Origin immortal, a man who bled maroon and crushed southern resistance with a deft kick, a sleight hand and fierce will to win.
And you can farewell Lockyer from the Origin arena right here by leaving a tribute, a favourite moment or a simple fond goodbye.
