Crews struggle to reach campervan crash on Bruce Hwy

UPDATE: Police are yet to reach a crash in the southbound lanes on the Bruce Hwy near Burpengary with traffic at a standstill.

They were called out at 12:52pm and early reports indicate a car has crashed into another towing a campervan, which has then hit a tree.

There are no reports of any major injuries, but traffic has come to a halt as holidaymakers flee the Sunshine Coast for Brisbane.

EARLIER:: A high priority alert is active for the Bruce Hwy with extensive gridlock south of the Sunshine Coast.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has issued a traffic alert for the Bruce Highway at Meridian Plains, with congestion affecting the southbound lanes.

Commuters are reporting delays as far south as Roys Road, where traffic is "going very slow."

"Slow moving, I'm 35km from gateway and doing 20kmh," Robert Simmonds said on social media.

Another person on the 'Sunshine Coast, QLD - Traffic Info' Facebook page rated the southbound traffic as "pretty backed up."

Delays may continue throughout the day.
