JERRY Hall had an epiphany to become a model after taking LSD as a teenager.

The 54-year-old old American beauty was given the powerful hallucinogenic drug at a party when she was in high school and she claims realised what her destiny was whilst staring at her face in a mirror while high.

In an interview with the American edition of Harper's Bazaar, she said: "A boy gave me a quarter of a tab. I didn't know what it was! I actually had never taken drugs and was very nervous. And I never did take drugs [afterwards] ever, ever. But I locked myself in the bathroom and spent the whole night staring in the mirror, going, 'Oh, my God.' All of a sudden, I thought, 'Wow!' "

She made the decision to move from Texas to Paris, France, to realise her ambition just a few weeks before her 17th birthday.

She explained: "I sort of had a turning thing. One of those moments where you decide you're going to do something really wild. And I did it."

The young Jerry was joined in Paris by her twin sister Terry and the pair moved into a room with Grace Jones.

She also became friends with a number of prominent artists and intellectuals, including the French existentialist philosophers Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir and the artist Salvador Dali.

Despite her inspirational experience with acid, Jerry has previously claimed to have never taken drugs, despite being presented with the opportunity to do so throughout her life.

The model - who refused to enter a relationship with Sir Mick Jagger until he quit heroin - said: "I was always scared of drugs. Not only was it illegal, it was also really dangerous - you could die. Also they are really bad for your looks. I never saw the point of drugs when a couple of glasses of red wine with friends is as much fun."
