Volunteering Queensland CEO Mara Basanovic said the “vital” grants would support the work of Queensland’s 8500 volunteers.

“We were overwhelmed with the amount of applications received,” Ms Basanovic said.

“Organisations are in dire need of funding to support and enable their volunteering programs to continue to deliver the important work they do.

“The top three requested categories for funding were small equipment items, training, and adapting practices to safely welcome back volunteers with COVID-19 requirements.

“We unfortunately continue to see a decline in the rates of volunteering across the state and country.

“These grants are modest but critical to maintaining and over time improving volunteer rates to help build strong, resilient, connected Queensland communities.”
