Mackay unemployment falls below national average

A CHRISTMAS present for the whole region, Mackay's unemployment rate has dropped below the national average.

According to data released this week from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate has fallen by more than 1% in Mackay for November.

The unemployment rate was 5% in November, down from 6.3% in October.

The Australian unemployment rate has fallen to 5.7%.

Mackay's figure is a continuation of a downward trend from the highs of 10.4% two years ago.

The number of people employed in Mackay has increased from 97,500 in October to 101,500 in November.

The 4000 rise in the number of people employed in 2016 is the same as the corresponding two months from 2015.
