Major regional forum in Rocky

A HUGE rural agribusiness forum will be held in Rockhampton in late November.

The event on November 30 will be the first of a series of forums in regional cities in Queensland, focussing on issues facing regional Australia.

The Westpac Agribusiness Knowhow Forum will also bring former Australian Defence Force chief General Peter Cosgrove to town.

He said: "People nowadays have a tendency to focus only on the issues affecting Australia's major cities.

"This preoccupation prevents us from thinking about those living in regional Australia and the challenges they face on a daily basis.

"These forums will provide us with the opportunity to focus on those living in regional Australia as they are the lifeblood of this nation."

Among the other personalities involved are ex-Wallaby centre Tim Horan, businessman Geoff Murphy and RM Williams Agricultural Holdings' managing director David Pearse.

Some celebrities will also appear, with fashion designer Wayne Cooper, music star Lee Kernaghan and celebrity Catriona Rowntree.

Westpac's London senior economist James Shugg will update delegates on the current global economic climate and the future.

The forum will also hold a workshop for the National Farmers Federation's 40-year plan, the Blueprint for Australian Agriculture.
