Man, 83, victim of hit and run

AN ELDERLY Maryborough man has been left in a critical condition in a Brisbane hospital with internal injuries and multiple broken bones after a hit-and-run early yesterday.

The 83-year-old man was found lying on the road near the Cheapside and Alice Sts intersection close to the Carriers Arms, about 1.30am.

His walking frame was found on the footpath metres away from where he fell.

Police said no vehicles were at the scene when the man was found and there was no indication how long he may have been lying injured on the road.

The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter was called to airlift the man to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition early yesterday morning.

Police said forensic tests were being done yesterday on a Holden sedan they believed was involved in the incident.

A man was assisting police with their inquiries yesterday.
