Accused Bellbird Park rapist has case adjourned

A BELLBIRD Park man accused of violently sexually assaulting a woman in 1996 will have his case mentioned at court next month.

The 51-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged earlier this year with five sexual offences including indecent assault, rape and deprivation of liberty after police allegedly obtained new DNA evidence.

His case was mentioned at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday and was adjourned.

In March 1996, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly attacked in Woolloongabba.

Last year the man provided police with a DNA sample for an unrelated matter and police allege this matched evidence taken at the time of the 1996 assault.

His case will be back before Brisbane Magistrates Court on April 11. - ARM NEWSDESK
