Man butts head with security after pouring own drink
CLIMBING behind a bar to pour his own drink brought Joel Alan Lansom to the attention of Wharf Tavern security.
What he did to a bouncer on the way out has landed him with a suspended jail sentence.
The 25-year-old butcher was "very intoxicated" when he head butted a bouncer at the Mooloolaba night spot about 12.30am on January 17.
It caused the man to taste blood in his mouth and feel soreness to his face.
Magistrate Rod Madsen noted in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday that Lanson had a history of disturbing people in licensed premises, whether they be females or security guards.
Defence solicitor Anna Smith said her client had since completed a education program to address his binge drinking issues.
"He is ashamed of the conduct he exhibited that evening," Ms Smith said.
She said the injury sustained by the bouncer was at the lower end of the scale.
Mr Madsen said alcohol was a very salient feature in what Lansom did.
He said it was lucky the security guard did not suffer more serious injury.
Lansom was sentenced to six months in jail, wholly suspended for 18 months.
He was banned from the Wharf Tavern for six months and ordered to pay $1000 restitution to the bouncer.
