Man charged over 2001 rape


POLICE have charged a 37-year-old Sunshine Coast man with rape following on-going investigations into an alleged rape which occurred 10 years ago.

It will be alleged that a 15-year-old teenage girl was sexually assaulted by a man armed with a knife in the early hours of March 3, 2001, as she walked in parkland located near David Low Way.

The Sunshine Coast man was charged yesterday.

He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 10 where he also faces charges of deprivation of liberty and assault with intent.
