Man dies crossing flooded road near Gin Gin

A GIN GIN man has died after the vehicle he was travelling in got caught in flood waters south-west of Bundaberg overnight.

Bundaberg police were called to the death scene just after 1am after a large storm cell dumped heavy rain on the region.

The area recorded more than 100mm of rain overnight.

Two people were travelling in the car that stopped to cross the flooded Delaney Rd at Wallaville.

The second occupant, the brother of the deceased, survived after getting out to check the water level.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate the  68-year-old deceased was the passenger in an SUV when it was swept away at 12.30am.

The 64-year-old driver raised the alarm.

With the assistance of the QFES swift water rescue team, the passenger was located deceased about 150 metres downstream around 2.30am.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Bundaberg police are pleading with residents not to drive through flooded roads.

They said more lives could have been lost last night.

A few kilometres away, swiftwater rescue crews retrieved another man who had abandoned his car in flood waters.

He was found alive clinging to a tree.

Another car was trapped in flood waters at Childers early this morning.

Emergency crews rescued two women and two children whose car and horse float was stuck in water on Gentle Annie Rd Apple Tree Creek.

Water was up to the door of the vehicle.
