Man mauled by dog at Maroochy Junior Rugby League club

UPDATE: A Staffordshire bull terrier that attacked the groundskeeper of the Maroochydore Junior Rugby League Club this morning has been euthanised by Sunshine Coast Council.

The man in his 50s was conducting his morning rounds of the fields when the incident happened just after 7.30am.

He suffered significant lower leg and head injuries and was treated at the scene by emergency services before being transported to Nambour General Hospital.

Sunshine Coast Council officers took the dog away at about 9am and will  investigate the incident.

Senior Constable Carl Voller said the man was initially bitten on the leg, before he fell to the ground, where the dog mauled his head.

The dog was regularly walked in the area.

A spokeswoman from Nambour General Hospital said the man was in a stable condition.

"This incident provides a timely reminder that while dogs may be loving members of the family, they can act unpredictably and must be under control at all times," a council spokesperson said.
