Missing man Cody McEwan-Cowie

Man missing from Duaringa found safe and well

UPDATE 11.55AM: The 27-year-old man reported missing from Duaringa, west of Rockhampton has been located safe and well.

Police would like to thank the public and media for their assistance.

6am; POLICE say a missing Gold Coast man, 27, who was travelling to Emerald on Monday, could have hitched a ride to the Northern Territory to look for his ex-partner.

The man, Cody McEwan-Cowie, was last seen near Duaringa (111km west of Rockhampton) about 4pm on Monday.

Police yesterday confirmed the man ran away from a truck he was travelling in with a friend.

Detective acting Inspector Luke Peachey said the missing man and his friend left the Gold Coast on Monday morning to travel to Emerald, where the latter (a builder by trade) was seeking quotes on a building job.

Det Insp Peachey said the missing man accompanied his mate to Emerald to give him a hand with the job.

When the pair, who was travelling in a white, flat-bed Hyundai truck, reached the Dawson River east of Duaringa, the truck's turbo booster blew up.

It was then believed Cody got out of the vehicle and ran away from his mate and the vehicle.

Det Insp Peachey said there were conflicting reports as to why the man ran away.

However, the police believed Cody "was in a mental state where he believed someone was following him".

When Cody left his friend's truck he was not wearing shoes.

He was dressed in a white T-shirt and brown shorts. Cody is a Caucasian man.

Police believed the missing man could have hitched a ride on another truck to the Northern Territory.

Aerial searches around Duaringa have been conducted. Call 1800 333 000 if you know where Cody might be or you have any information.
