Man tries to rush police with chainsaw

A MAN has been charged after rushing police with a chainsaw.

Around 11.30pm, Police attended a Shailer Park address following reports that a woman had been assaulted.

On arrival, police were confronted with a man who had started up a chainsaw and made an attempt to run at them with it.

One officer presented a taser, and the other a firearm.

Police issued verbal warnings for the man to stop, before an officer deployed a taser unsuccessfully.

Further verbal warnings were issued before the man eventually complied with police to stop.

He was taken into custody without further incident and did not sustain any injuries.

A woman involved in an earlier incident at the address did not seek medical assistance.

A 40-year-old Zillmere man has been charged with two counts of assault police whilst armed with a weapon and one count each of common assault (domestic violence offence) and contravention of a domestic violence order.

He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court tomorrow.
