Manners sure to Please punters

Emerald’s Pioneer Park will be the venue for racing this weekend with a distinctly Capella theme.

IT IS Herb Milne Memorial Race Day at Pioneer Park tomorrow with the day taking on a Capella flavour to commemorate the memory of a past president and hard working committeeman of the Emerald Jockey Club.

The Milne family is well known in the Capella area having lived there for many years and club patron Deidre Milne will be surrounded by friends and family to celebrate the day.

All races are sponsored by Capella-based businesses and there will be buses running from Capella and return for the day.

Following a spate of “washed out” race meetings in this area, Racing Queensland has made the decision to split the QTIS Maiden Plate in an attempt to enable a number of horses to get a start that would have normally been balloted out if the decision had not been made.

Originally 35 horses nominated for this event and the EJC can only start 14 runners from the 1100-metre barriers.

She may not be in the class of Black Caviar, but the Henry Forster-trained Manners Please is taking all before her at the moment and is going for her fifth win on the trot in the feature event of the day, the Herb Milne Memorial Open Handicap over 1000 metres.

Her most recent start was at Pioneer Park over the same distance as tomorrow’s event when she downed Tune Him Up and Wharton Willie.

It is worth noting Wharton Willie won his following start at a Mackay TAB meeting.

It is not often we get to see a horse in this area string together five consecutive wins, but I expect Manners Please to do just that tomorrow and I have marked her as one of the best bets on the card.

Apart from that race winners look well concealed with chances given to Three Little Words, Spirit of the Bush, Boberg and Picable in their respective races.

The first race is set to start at 1.15pm and gates open at 11am.

Race 1. Three Little Words - Too Cluie - Origin Brave

Race 2. Manners Please - Sweed - Stipulation

Race 3. Wallaringa - Run Willy Run – Showie Doll

Race 4. Catabolic - Ef Fifty - Sally Jo

Race 5. Boberg - Zsazsa - Gold War

Race 6. Summerslittleangel – Jamdit - General Birdwood
