Manny could be 'ready to crumble' against Horn
BOXING: Legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer believes anybody who doubts Jeff Horn's chances against Manny Pacquiao should look to one of the biggest upsets in the sport's history.
"Jeff Horn doesn't have a lot of experience, he's never fought anybody as good as Manny Pacquiao," Buffer said.
"But we all remember 27 years ago, when some guy named Buster Douglas went to Tokyo, was an 80-1 underdog against Mike Tyson, and he knocked Mike Tyson out and became the world heavyweight champion."
Buffer, the man behind the most famous line in boxing - 'let's get ready to rumble' - will be the guest ring announcer at Sunday's Battle of Brisbane.
The 72-year-old has seen his fair share of upsets in his more than three decades in boxing.
While he agreed with the general consensus, which has Pacquiao, a future Hall of Famer and eight-division world champion, set as the firm favourite, Buffer warned the big home-town crowd could work in Horn's favour. "Maybe he'll dominate early and win by knockout, but Manny is 38," he said.
"We all have seen the upset happen.
"No matter how great a fighter feels, when you're on the wrong side of 35 in boxing, it's not necessarily a given that you will be the dominant fighter.
"You can't write Jeff off. He's got age going for him, he's got the home crowd, and what I think is a physical size advantage. I think when you're going to fight someone and you're an underdog, and you're in your hometown in front of an unprecedented 50,000 to 60,000 screaming fans, there might be some encouragement there."
The Battle of Brisbane is available on Main Event.
