Man's body found in the middle of Byron Bay

UPDATE 10am: THE DEATH of a 45-year old man near Jonson St in Byron Bay on Friday night is not being treated as suspicious according to police.

A NSW Police Media spokeswoman said a triple-0 call was made about 6pm by a witness who attempted to revive the man with CPR with help from two other onlookers.

Paramedics and police attended soon after but the man was not revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are preparing a brief for the coroner.

 

ORIGINAL 8.30am: POLICE are investigating the death of a man whose body was found outside Byron Bay's visitor information centre near Jonson St on Friday night.

The 45-year old man was found by witnesses about 6.40pm.

Tweed-Byron local area command Sergeant Chris Neaves said detectives had been called to the scene and were launching an investigation.

Sgt Neaves said it was still unknown whether any suspicious circumstances surrounded the death.
