Man’s boneheaded tattoo blunder

One New Zealand fan will live to regret getting a "2019 Rugby World Cup winners" tattoo after his nation's semi-final defeat at the hands of England.

All Blacks supporter Shaun Pollard prematurely had the inking done ahead of the big game in Yokohama - won 19-7 by Eddie Jones' heroic Red Rose squad, The Sun reports.

The superfan will now be left with the permanent reminder of his foolishness thanks to one of England's greatest performances in any sport.

Earlier this week, Pollard told stuff.co.nz he didn't think before getting the ink as he couldn't see any way New Zealand would lose.

The All Blacks hadn't lost a World Cup game for 12 years before they were mauled by England.

Ahead of the semi-final showdown, Pollard told stuff: "I'm confident that they're not going to lose, I back them 100 per cent.

"They're going for a three-peat and I haven't even thought about them losing.

"It's a thing I've always wanted. I was going to get it for the last World Cup but I thought I'd get it this time to show my support for the boys.

"It's just gone crazy. I put up the picture last night and it's gone viral, I've had people ringing me from everywhere."

Pollard may want to get the 2019 portion lasered off or be left with the harrowing reminder of a day New Zealand will be desperate to forget.

England won 19-7 thanks to a blistering performance and inspirational efforts from the likes of Maro Itoje, Tom Curry and Sam Underhill.

It could have been even better for Jones and Co too - after England had two tries controversially disallowed.

Regardless, Red Rose supporters went wild at full-time as they prepare to go again against Wales or South Africa next weekend.
