Man's death is region's fourth fatality in 24 hours

A MAN has been killed in a two-vehicle crash west of Toowoomba. 

The 70-year-old man died in the collision yesterday, about 40km east of Charleville. 

Police said about 12.30pm, a utility towing a caravan attempted to turn across the Warrego Hwy to access a rest stop on the side of the road when a semi-trailer collided with the utility. 

The driver, from Finch Hatton, died at the scene. 

His passenger, a 72-year-old woman, was taken to Charleville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The truck driver, a 64-year-old man, was also take to Charleville Hospital suffering shock. 

The highway was closed for about two hours. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating. 

The man's death is the fourth fatality in a traffic crash in just over 24 hours near Toowoomba. 

A 26-year-old man died about 20km south of Taroom on Monday after his truck rolled on Yeovil Rd and two other men, a 53-year-old and a 42-year-old, were killed after their car rolled at Wengenville just hours later.
