MARCO Radovanovic didn't feature in Central Queensland Football Club's 3-0 win over Southside United on Saturday night.

Not that he's too worried as long as his side keeps on winning.

Instead, Radovanovic turned out for CQFC Energy's under-21 team in their 5-1 win over a Southside United second team while Energy coach Ray Wood's No.1 goalkeeper and club vice-captain Andrew Poyser kept a clean sheet.

The performance, which featured a spectacular penalty goal save by Poyser, handed Wood his eighth win of the Energy's pre-season campaign a fortnight out from their National Premier League season-opener against South West Queensland Thunder.

"I've always been on the field at my previous clubs, but when you get to a new club, you have to bide your time," said Radovanovic, who played for Moreton Bay United last season.

"Andrew is playing some phenomenal football and keeping clean sheets. I'm happy to sit back and wait for an opportunity because he's playing well for the team."

The Energy absorbed a Southside United onslaught in the early part of the match before pushing ahead late in the contest on the bank of goals to Innocent Taban, Bryce Ruthven and Jordan Polkinghorne.

"It was a good hit-out - the boys played very well," Radovanovic said. "We created a lot of chances and we put our chances away, which is very important."

They now turn their attention towards a midweek friendly against Central Queensland Premier League outfit Capricorn Coast on Wednesday night before meeting Clinton on Saturday evening.

Radovanovic said he believed the club was a lot further advanced than they were at this stage of the 2013 season.

"I think we'll surprise a couple of teams this year," he said. "It's looking like a completely different team to last year.

"We're playing some good football."
