QUEENSLANDER Jason Day has had the biggest win of his career, beating Frenchman Victor Dubuisson to take the WGC Match Play Championship in Arizona.
Day, 26, collected $1.7 million for the win, which also gave him a three-year exemption on the US PGA Tour.
He is also set to rise to world No.4 from 11, behind only Tiger Woods, countryman Adam Scott and Swede Henrik Stenson.
In the final, Day stormed ahead to go 3-up on Dubuisson through 12 holes.
But just as it appeared the Aussie would win easily, the world No. 30 managed to fight back and take the final to extra holes.
The Frenchman then somehow got out of trouble twice with amazing recoveries from poor lies on the 19th and 20th holes before finally succumbing on the 23rd when Day holed his one-metre birdie putt.
Day's only previous win on the US PGA Tour was in the 2010 Byron Nelson Championship.
