Mat Rogers to raise money 4 ASD Kids

DUAL international football legend Mat Rogers and his TV presenter wife Chloe Maxwell will spend a weekend in Salt in December raising money for their charity 4 ASD Kids.

The celebrity couple today launched the charity in 2009 to support families with children challenged by autism so they can access early intervention therapies.

The couple's five-year-old son suffers autism, but with the help of early intervention, will be able to start primary school at Miami State School next year.

Ms Maxwell said the annual kids weekend charity event had raised more than half a million dollars so far.

"It's so good we're able to use our celebrity for good and not evil," she said.

"It was hard enough to deal with the fact that my son was going to be different but then trying to sift through all the information about what we should or shouldn't do was just impossible.

"Luckily we were in a financial position to be able to afford the help our son needed but many people aren't and that's who we want to help."

Mr Rogers said he was grateful to Tweed mayor Barry Longland, Destination Tweed CEO Phil Villiers and the Mantra group for being so supportive of the charity event, that had previously been hosted at Sanctuary Cove.

"To be welcomed by the area the way that we have makes us feel really grateful," he said.

"Early intervention takes kids that would need care for the rest of their life and gives them a chance at a normal life."

Events held over the December 16 - 19 weekend include the Mat Rogers Celebrity Golf Classic, Chloe and Friends Ladies Brunch, Kids Gala and will wrap up with Carols by the Beach.
