McInnes the people's champion after Quade Cooper bout

IT HAS been an enormous week for Hervey Bay's Craig Glover.

In amongst work and his normal routine, Glover embarked on a journey as Jack McInnes' trainer for his bout against Quade Cooper.

Called up to fight the Queensland Reds and Wallabies playmaker just weeks ago, Glover and McInnes worked hard to ensure he was ready for the fight.

The 22-year-old's battle with the Super Rugby title winner was seventh of a nine-fight card headlined by Danny Green's win over Anthony Mundine.

While Cooper won courtesy of a second round TKO, McInnes was clearly the people's champion on the night.

"He had such an ovation when he came out," Glover said of the Adelaide Oval crowd's response.

"He was cheered quite well - Cooper was booed, but that's because they didn't like Cooper.

"After the fight, I said (to Jack) you had to be polite to the crowd. He acknowledged the crowd and the whole place erupted.

"Until the main event it was the loudest fight for audience participation."

McInnes went from the target for cruel memes and jokes on the internet, fought the biggest and potentially last fight of his career, to the most sought-after person at Adelaide Oval in a matter of hours.

"We couldn't move five steps without someone stopping for a handshake or a selfie," Glover said.

"I reckon he took about 150-200 photos.

"Everywhere we went, the whole place would start cheering, and he'd be getting selfies."

Adelaide airport, Brisbane Airport, a Caboolture service station on his long trip home, the Jack McInnes Fan Club has exploded and seemingly everybody wants a piece of the plasterer.

"The Australian public really got behind him," Glover said.
