MARKING Youth Week, up-and-coming illustrators will exhibit works alongside those of Insanity Streak creator, Tony Lopes, at the Bunker Cartoon Gallery in Coffs Harbour.

Mr Lopes is an internationally-recognised cartoonist, who began his craft at age 16. You may have seen his work in the Daily Telegraph. After studying fine art he developed his idea for a single cell comic.

The result was Insanity Streak, which now features in 80 papers worldwide from Europe to Asia.

The comic strip has been voted best in Australia seven times in the past 10 years at the annual Stanley Awards, which are considered the Oscars of the cartoon world and are judged by industry professionals.

The opening on Friday night marks the start of Youth Week and to celebrate, Mr Lopes’s works will be exhibited with budding young illustrators Lauren Kelly Small and Nicholas Toscan.

Lauren has developed her passion for drawing mythic figures into her own business, building her drawings into rich, colourful digital paintings.

Nicholas Toscan completed his HSC at Coffs Harbour Senior College last year.

He hopes his compositions of imagined, ancient cityscapes which incorporate architectural motifs and landscaping will help carve a career in theatrical set design.

The exhibits will run from April 1 to May 14 and all are welcome to attend the opening night on Friday from 6pm. Entry is free and refreshments will be provided. Insanity Streak fans can meet the creator at the Bunker Cartoon Gallery on April 8, at 6pm.
