Members of the public detain driver of crashed SUV

POLICE are investigating after a crash at Coolangatta last night.

Around 10.30pm, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) was travelling westbound on Musgrave Street when it hit an unattended, parked station wagon.

The SUV continued along Musgrave Street for around 300 metres before hitting a stationary truck with one person inside and another standing beside it.

The SUV then travelled onto the wrong side of the road, hitting the gutter before the driver got out of the vehicle and tried to run off.

He was detained by members of the public before being handed over to police.

No one was injured in either crash but significant damage was caused to the vehicles involved.

A 39-year-old Kogarah, New South Wales man was transported to Tweed Hospital for minor injuries after returning a positive roadside breath test.

He is now assisting police with their enquiries.
