Men's winner vows to return next year

GOLF: Brisbane golfer Trevor Box has shot to victory in this week's Frenchville Sports Club Tropic of Capricorn Veterans Golf Carnival.

Box, from the Riverlakes club in Brisbane, was the Division 1 men's gross winner with 542 points.

Rockhampton's Cathy Simmons took the honours in the Division 1 women with a score of 522 points.

They were among about 300 golfers from Queensland and interstate who took part in the annual carnival, which is played over seven days at five of the district's courses.

 

Box has vowed to return next year, saying he enjoyed a tremendous week of golf.

Other winners were:

Men, Division 1 nett winner: Jeff Clayton (Rockhampton) 405 pts

Division 2 gross winner: Rod Layt (Oakwood Park) 522 pts

Division 2 nett winner: Ronald VanGoethem (Hervey Bay) 472 pts

Division 3 stableford winner: Ray Doyle (Beerwah) 407 pts

Division 3 stableford runner-up: Alan Dwyer (Gordonvale) 407 pts

Women Division 1 nett winner: Alice O'Connell (Emu Park) 482 pts

Division 2 gross winner: Sue Marshall (Meriwether) 431 pts

Division 2 nett winner: Delroi Bolger (Yeppoon) 472 pts

Division 3 stableford winner: Shirley Porter (Hervey Bay) 536 pts

Division 3 stableford runner-up: Caroline Munro (Pelican Waters) 522 pts
